The Cage St Osyth : WTF Did I Just Capture

December 2nd, 2017: The Cage

I’d been reading about the cage for quite some time. It’s a pretty hellish location located in a sleepy little town on the outskirts of Essex. Essex in was plagued by witchcraft during the dark ages and these type of spirits tend to linger, if not something darker that followed them there.

The Cage is an old Witch Prison separated into two parts. The second part of the building is larger and where the cells of common prisoners were held, around about 20-30 of them. The part of the building that I investigated was the front section and the part where the serious criminals and most evil witches were held. God knows what they did during their imprisonment or what was done to them, but you can be sure its left its mark.

The Cage itself operated as a Witches prison for over 400 years. It has a long history of haunting that went hidden for a long time until a lady named Vanessa moved in and experienced hell. She went through nights of terror and it hit the media like a storm. Vanessa also found out about the former tenants who until recently remained hidden. One man in the late 1800’s bought the old prison for £150 and sold it two weeks later for just £50. The tenant before Vanessa became a recluse and eventually hung himself in the master bedroom. Not to mention the capture of Ursula Kemp a notorious witch of the age and if history is true, a bit of a bastard.

It was the 2^nd of December 2017 and after months of planning, I found myself looking up at the Cage. There was a strange mist settled over this forgotten village, the buildings were ancient, the town was old fashioned and its inhabitants terrified. Directly opposite the cage is a huge mental asylum which rumour has it, is insanely haunted but impossible to get access to as they are turning it into an old people’s home. Not that companies best decision to date…

Just down the road from the Cage is an old Tudor age pub that claims to be very haunted. In 2016 a driver inexplicably lost control and ploughed through the front of the tavern, injuring many people and killing one unfortunate soul.

St Osyth defiantly has the history that creates a brutal haunting. However, I’ve been so many locations that promised an unmatchable haunting only to have been disappointed by a ruse. So, night one in the Cage I brought minimal equipment and nothing to film with apart from my iPhone.

We had 5 Volunteers, one Investigator who had experience in the Cage and myself. Vanessa refused point blank to stay after dark. Through the course of the night, I investigated in a few rooms myself, joined the volunteers as they tried to provoke the dark spirits into reacting, and mainly watched from CCTV to see if we capture anything in the moment.

My Mel Meter ( An EMF Measurement tool ) fluctuated like crazy, we constantly heard footsteps both light and quick and some heavy but quicker. I heard faint whispers behind me whilst walking around upstairs, we captured numerous lights flickering on both levels of the house, I got bitten or pinched on the leg and even caught two little sticker figures cowering from my touch in the motion camera which ill show you below. The motion camera footage shows a stick figure covering its face and recoiling as I try to touch it.

All in all, it was one of the most frantic and terrifying nights of my life, but it was around 3 am when I Sent the volunteers upstairs to investigate when I noticed something on the CCTV, whipped out my iPhone and captured the most terrifying footage I’ve ever seen.

The Evidence

The instructions were clear and well followed. Refrain from talking to each other, and open yourself up to whatever is in there. The master bedroom is the most haunted room in the house and definitely the room with the most hostile and grim atmosphere. The room was pitch black and silent.

We had a hidden camera in the top corner of the bedroom as me and Dave (The other investigator) watched from downstairs. We had one walkie-talkie set in the middle of the table of the master bedroom for the volunteers to use and one walkie with us. We used the walkie’s to send instructions up to the volunteers, if not to call out ourselves. This provoked a lot of activity. We saw innumerable inexplicable lights flicker across the room, heard a loud growl coming from the corner, and 3 loud bangs smash of the door behind the volunteers.

Then we looked for Debbie, but we could not see her… So we walkied up and one of the younger volunteers stepped back and walkied back, “ She’s next to me”. Both me and Dave gasped, she was unrecognisable and what I saw shook me to my core. After a moment that seemed a lifetime I knew I had to film this. I whipped out my iPhone, fully charged ‘ Thank God’ and it’s in that moment that I captured what you will see below.

Just a quick warning, I’ve shown very few people what I am about to show you and even my friends who do not believe in ghosts have had nightmares. ‘ It’s the video towards to end not the intial picture of Debbie ‘

Pay very close attention to the images of Debbie I took after her experience, shown first in order to validate what we captured.

This is Debbie, “ Hi Debbie”.

Pay very Close attention to Debbie’s nose it is very much straight and short.

Here you can see Debbie smiling, also very important to validate what you are about to see.

This is the very first picture I Took when I started to notice something strange, Debbie has her hood up and is centre screen. Zoom in if you’re using your phone and look at the fingers on her right hand. Grouteslgy long and bizarre.

Now, this for me is validation. Look at her nose, it has changed shape completely. Almost like a witch’s, with a sharp arch in the bridge of her nose. That nose is not the same as seen in the pictures above and it is not a prop…

Still, her nose is arched, and her face is distorted and changed. But now she sports a rather menacing grimace.

Again look at Debbies nose, it has a sharp hook towards the tip and her eyes are shrouded in black.

This now looks nothing like Debbie.

This picture chilled me. The camera is Hidden, yet she looks directly at it and I felt directly at us…

This was when the IPhone 7 Pluses Live Image came in handy and I was able to turn this picture into a GIF. You can see the man to Debbies right calling out to the ghosts in the room, but this is crazy. What is Debbie smiling at? That is not how she smiles, that is not her or her smile…

Debbie is now looking at the volunteer with her back to the camera with malice like she wants to hurt her.

Here you can see another weirdly smug expression, it looks nothing like Debbie.

Now for the showstopper

Here you can see the smile that has haunted me. Sure you can say this is a shadow but her entire face has changed and her smile is stretching across her face like Batman’s arch-rival the Joker. This makes her look completely Inhuman, zoom in if you can, and watch just how much her mouth changes.

Dave tells Debbie to come downstairs, whatever else was in that room was trying to taking over. She came downstairs in a panic and starts clawing at her back. “ It’s burning, it burns” we took of Debbie’s top layers and pulled down the neck of her jumper to find 4 long burn marks that look like fingers and a long singular burn mark going up the back of her neck which you can see below.

If you go back up to the top images you’ll notice Debbie is wearing numerous layers with her hood up. Making it impossible to have reached that part of her back herself.

Debbie suffered for many nights following this investigation with nightmares and strange occurrences at her home. Today she is fine.

Conclusion

Sometimes whilst in a pitch black room your eyes can play tricks and you can see a man’s face change into something else completely. Like when you stare into a mirror for too long but here, however, I  have proven that it is not just shadowed playing tricks on your eyes and it may be something far more sinister. To my knowledge, this has never before been captured on Camera.

Here I invite your own theories and explanations. Is this a partial possession? Is Debbie now a witch!? 

As for myself, I cannot disprove this but will remember this night as the most memorable and terrifying investigation of my life. The Cage is no joke and may just be Britain’s most haunted house. I will return there soon, fully geared up. Stay Tuned.
