Xochimilco – The Doll Island, Mexico

Doll Island or Isla de las Munecas in Xochimico, Mexico is considered to be one of the most haunted locations in the world. The hundreds of dolls hanging around the island are said to whisper, blink and even move. Not to mention all the other activity of this creepy ass island.

The story begins when the caretaker of the island Don Julian Santana Barrera found a little girl drowned on the banks of the island. He tried to save her life but failed, she was dead for to long. A short while after a doll came floating up onto the banks.

He took it that this doll was the little girls and had fell into the water around the same time. So he hung it from a tree in an act of respect for the little girls spirit. He soon realised that the girls spirit had remained there with him. But she was violent and he was often scared, but he never fled the island.

So Don Julian began to hang more and more dolls to appease her but the activity only became more brutal. He thought he was attracting the spirits of more little girls who had lost there life in these canals. His close friends said he changed alot in these years, as if he was driven by some unseen force. Apparently he was marred by the fact he got not save her.

Don Julian Died in 2001 and his spirit has been seen. He stated that the dolls told him to walk into the water but he did not want to go. I think he knew what was on this island but as in other demonically haunted locations people become attached and do not want to leave.

However there has been some controversy on whether or not Don Julian even did find a little girl on the banks, or whether is is something a whole lot darker having this effect on him. Its not like we haven’t heard of other haunted dolls, and they are never good things.

Some say they hear the dolls whispering to each other, others say the dolls have lured them in when passing on a boat. Of course these can easily be exaggeration but there is no doubt that there are things here.

Stories of people having terrible nightmares after leaving the island became a common occurrence after Don Julian’s death. People began to hear more prominent whispers, or where being scratched and genuinely terrified.

All of this occurred after Don Julian’s family turned this island into a tourist destination. Turning a place with an evil presence or presences into a novelty never seems to go well.

The first doll he ever collected is still here. Perhaps another piece of evidence that this is another girl was the possessive nature in which Don Julian cared for the dolls. He must have almost lost his mind.

So the dolls are heard screaming, crying and many said they have seen something following them.

But they didn’t just come onto the island with a couple of evp recorders and a full spectrum camera, they brought one the most haunted dolls int he world along. Harold. The evidence they got is really quite amazing.
