Haunted Eagle & Child Pub, Lanchashire

Eagle & Child Pub

This is one of the coziest and oldest public houses in Lancashire, it was even one of the locations where the iconic J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Lord Of The Ring’s. However there have been hauntings here since the beginning from a number of different spirits, one occasion even reduced the landlady to tears… Poltergeist activity, decaying skeletons found in the walls, the Eagle & Child pub is one hell of a location

Ghost Hunting at the Eagle & Child Pub

Ghost Hunting at the Eagle & Child Pub

The Pub itself dates back to 1763 when it was a courthouse with holding cells beneath. the Judge who presided over some of the cases was an evil man, perhaps even more evil than those held below. There is alot of activity in this location, not of the kind that only bumps in the night.

The Bar Area.

The main bar area is where the majority of the poltergeist activity seems to be occurring. Objects move around constantly and glasses will fling themselves from the bar or rack, bottles with smash and bar stool’s will smash to the floor.

The moans of a women can be heard plainly at night, even when there’s just on barman left clearing up… A Mans voice is also heard mumbling odd words that people can not quite make out.

There have been few investigations here and all of the recorded activity is poltergeist however there was notable investigation. The team had been conducting a seance and whatever was in there was only to happy to respond, the glass used in the seance began to spin around in circles wildly until it spelt the words ” Sentenced to Death”. It then began to spell other words basically telling them to die or get out, but there was a shadow lurking in the corner which sent the team fleeing the building.

This large dark shadow has been seen lurking around the bar area by everyone working there, all they can describe is the oppressive atmosphere and anxiety it caused not to mention darting around the room, terrifying all witnesses.

Ghosts of the Eagle & Child pub

Ghosts of Eagle & Child pub.

The Ghost’s of the Eagle & Child are not friendly. It has housed a man who was a bandit who’s body was found in the wall, after a brutal execution in front of a house after a life of dark deeds. Not to mention an unknown women lurking in the darker corners, shrieking all through the night.

 The Bandit

There are two suspects for the brutal activity going on inside the bar area. The first is a man called Daniel Murphy who was a highwayman during the countries darker times, and he had a liking for murdering women..

Daniel was eventually caught and brought back to the Eagle and Child which in that period was a courthouse and an execution chamber. He was sentenced to hang by the neck until dead by the judge. He hung for 20 minutes before he was pronounced dead. The hanging was so brutal that the victim had bled so much from his ears that his tunic was a deep red.

It is believed that the body found in the walls of the pub belonged to this man. An evil man and one of the worst ways to die combined is going to leave something behind, if he is thought to be responsible for the violent activity in the pub, but is he malicious or just angry… maybe a bit of both.

The Moaning Lady

The spirit of the women seen and heard can not be identified. She is heard moaning all through the night sometimes loud and painful. But was she a victim of the murderous highway man? Or was she sentenced to death here herself…
